- "Modem not responding" has nothing to do with UART's. Anyway, you haven't
- told us how you tried to set the baud (DTE) rate to 57600 (in Trumpet, you
- do it in the trumpet setup screen) and why you think that won't work.

- (p.s. Without a 16550, the main result of that DTE setting would be
- alot of overruns, and probably freezing up), but you'd never get a
- "modem not responding" message.
